Nostril Drain-O

Lately I've been attacked by multiple little bouts of the cold. One day I have a scratchy voice, and then the next, I'm sneezing all over the place. Well when it started interrupting my sleep last week, I knew I had to do something beyond my typical Throat Coat. I ran to the store in search of a medicine that would decongest my nose (and if you truly know me, you know that I consider medicine to be an ultimate last resort). I was chatting it up with a friend while I scoured the flu aisle, when she said "You haven't tried a neti pot?" Well, actually I preach the greatness of the thing, but yet I've never tried it for myself. My poor mates have heard me reference Dr. Oz's endorsement of the thing, and in fact I even convinced my brother to buy our sibling one of them a few weeks back.

So whaddya know? The thing is genius. Without having to spray any weird toxic chemicals up your nose, or depending on Sudafed, you can completely get over whatever it is that's ailing you in your sinuses. You simply fill up this miniature-looking watering can with a little bit of lukewarm water, mix with a saline solution (or salt if your kit doesn't include the packets), and off you go, draining it into your nostril. Of course we're all aware of the fact that if one nostril is plugged, it will begin to leak out the other. At that point, you switch and start in on the other side. It's unbelievable how clear you can breathe again. After a little bit of research, I found out that this is the method that my older brother has been using every day to help with his allergies--he swears by it. So whether it be for a simple cold, allergy relief, or daily need to start Neti Potting. It's becoming as regular as brushing my teeth each morning. Brush, floss, rinse, neti.

Btw: Although I would have loved to have purchased the beautiful off-white ceramic pot from Whole Foods, I didn't have many options other than Walgreens at eleven at night..therefore I ended up with a steal of a SinuCleanse $9 kit that's currently on sale (don't believe the site--go in for the real deal). I figure it's going in my nose--no need to get fancy.

So Solid!

Greetings, chicky doos. Have you seen this? Can you believe it? My favorite candle scent has been transformed into some of life's greatest things: body butter, perfume, and now a solid! Pacifica's Hawaiian Ruby Guava ($8.95) perfume solid is the smartest thing since the invention of their soap! I'm telling you--I have never found a more fragrant soap, then the one that Pacifica offers. You'd think I doused myself in a bottle of their room spray--but no, it was just a little sudsing in the shower. We've used this same scent as favor candles for one lovely lady's baby shower, and you would have thought crack was in that vigil by the way that I was sniffing. I just can't get enough of it! Sweet, coconutty, and totally blissful. Now you can take it with you, and just whip it out of your purse anytime you need a pick-me-up. No need to risk looking all tacky with your Victoria's Secret body splash...ahem. I guess I could have left that out.

Now Brush It Out...

This time of year, one thing that bugs is how dry the air (not to mention cold) is around these parts. Consequently, it has always been a difficult time to maintain a healthy scalp. As the weather starts shifting, the flakes come a rushin'. Up until recently, it has always been about as taboo a subject as my greys have been. But in the interest of being real about it, and making an effort to help those travelling the same road, I now give to you my latest secret: The Goody Styling Therapy Copper Brush. Although it's a mere $9, I pondered the idea of whether or not it would really be effective in eliminating the source of an embarrassing scalp. Two weeks ago I finally bit the bullet, and decided that regardless of whether it worked or not, it would at least be worth a drugstore-priced try (Wish I had seen the website prior to that "major" purchase..I could have scored on a coupon!). I'm pleased to announce that I only have good things to say, one of them being that it has ultra massaging powers because of the copper bristles. I can't give you statistics or anything--but I admit that I look forward to a good brushing every morning and evening, and black is back in my wardrobe.

Just For Us?

It's been a long while since I've seriously considered a skincare line. I've been so happy with my standby that I just haven't had a need for anything new. It's possible that this can be attributed to my slight issue with loyalty. I feel terrible at the mere idea of offending my "norm". Just last weekend, a friend had to convince me that I wasn't "cheating" on the Pope by watching the Dalai Lama, when I realized that he too was referred to as His Holiness. Anyways, I digress.

It's been some time that this product has been out and about, but I have yet to try it. I was reminded of it though, as I flipped through my Sephora catalog a couple of weekends ago. RX For Brown Skin is seemingly the perfect fit for women of color. So while I want to give it all a try, there's one catch: I need Dr. Susan Taylor to note on her website that this is made also for Pacific Islanders. Why is it that we can include Latino, Asian, African, Middle Eastern and Indian as brown skinners (although many can be even lighter than us!), and we get the shaft? Not okay.

It's Been Confirmed--Beyonce & Jay-Z Married!

Beyonce and Jay-Z were married today in New York! It was a private ceremony with 20 people, held at his residence. There were tents set up outside of his home, with the roman numeral IV on them. Of course, the both of them have a tattoo of this number, along with the fact that today is 4/4. They were married at 4pm exactly, and guests were asked to wear beige. Beautiful!

Let's just say my bestie birdy told me ;)...

Eek! Must Have SOON!

I haven't yet had the opportunity to visit the new O'ahu Nordstrom, but I'm antsy just thinking about it. One thing that I will be purchasing first (and possibly just over the internet if I don't hurry and contain myself) is the Saffron James perfume line. Yes, the whole line. How can you withold, with scents like le'a, 'ume, and punono? Well the answer is, I can't.

And for the one (or two people) who will get this: The line creator's birthday is April 1st. So yes, you too must purchase.
