No Longer the Girl Next Door...

Did we all watch Miss Universe last night? How great would that be--to be crowned the most beautiful woman in the WHOLE UNIVERSE? That's like, kinda weird actually..but definitely something to brag about. Anyway, Miss Japan won--and although I can respect her conservative look (I mean come on, her gown had long sleeves), I was really cheering for Miss Venezuela. That is, if you don't count Miss Greece who had the cutest default photo by far. All of that didn't matter though, because she didn't even make it past the first cut. We're not even gonna go there with what happened to Miss USA. Pageantry is a funny thing--spending months, even years learning how to strenghten your cheek muscles so that you can have a constant sparkly white smile. One thing about the competition is for sure--that photo shoot looked straight up Maxim, and had nothing to do with being a "pure, young, positive influence". That was global girls gone wild.

Don't Lash Out On Me...

...just figure it out for yourself! I get so many questions from girls that want to know how to apply their beautifying faux lashes, but don't know how to avoid looking like Tammy Faye in the process. Of course I've mentioned it before--I like the individuals (preferably Thi Cosmetics' Lush Lashes), but if you want to just throw on a whole set, I've found a great tutorial of how to do so with my favorite application tool of choice: the tweezer. Now go and knock yourself out and apply some lovely lashes for today's lunch or dinner plans. Just don't forget to use DUO eyelash glue. I usually grab some from the MAC counter (trust me, you don't WANT some of that other sticky stuff anywhere near your eyes).

Summer is just around the bend, and if you haven't already, it's time that you get your body beach-bum ready! Now of course you all already know that there needs to be some exfoliating, waxing, and moisturizing going on. But what about the things we put in our body to make our skin shine and glow? Below are some of my favorite beauty secrets for keeping what you've got in good shape all summer long.

1. Coconut Water: A real must, and you island ladies know just what I'm talking about. If you want to guard off some of the harmful effects that the environment has on your skin, turn down this alley real quick. Not only does this light (read: no, not a heavy coconut cream) drink quench your thirst with a fruity burst of coconuttiness, but it's only about 46 calories a cup! So for you dieters out there, no need to fear--you'll get the best dose of antioxidants you never knew about, while also enjoying a drink that hits oh-so-close to home. Just a word to the wise though--make sure that you pick up a can of something that includes more than just sugar and water. I love ONE (check the link).

2. FlaxSeed Oil: You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again. Want your hair silky smooth, while you work on preventing that hyper-active eating habit that is never a good match with that itsy-bitsy bikini? FlaxSeed Oil is good for all of the above and everything in between. Let it do it's job on your hair, nails, and complexion. Additionally, because it is a source of fat (the good kind..no worries), it will provide you with the feeling of fullness you need to keep yourself from over-indulging at the table. Of course it helps with your heart, blood, and everything else you can imagine as well. You can get your dose in pill format, or liquid. I prefer liquid, and mix two tablespoons daily with a glass of water.

3. Aloe Vera: Taken internally? Yes! Disgusting? Sometimes. Worth it? Isn't it always worth it when it's in the name of beauty? Aloe vera has been shown to help improve digestion and the absorption of nutrients as well as alleviate a plethora of other body issues such as acne and skin care problems. It's not the tastiest by itself (unless it's one of the yummy flavors that AloeLife offers), so I like to mix it up as a smoothie/juicer type drink with some cucumber and apple. Check out one of my favorite recipes: Allo Aloe.
